CW CPA participates in “Think Asia, Think Hong Kong” Symposium in London
On 21 September 2017, CW CPA took part in the Hong Kong Trade Development Council’s high-profile, flagship promotional event “Think Asia, Think Hong Kong” in London, the United Kingdom to encourage overseas businesses to leverage the unique advantages that Hong Kong offers as the premier gateway to the Chinese mainland and a “super-connector” linking China with the rest of the world.
The full-day symposium drew more than 2,100 business representatives and government officials from a wide range of sectors including professional services, marketing, finance and technology. Featuring prominent and esteemed speakers such as Rt Hon Dr Liam Fox MP, Secretary of State for International Trade and Hon Jeffrey Lam, Member of the Legislative Council of the Hong Kong SAR Government, the event provided participants with a wealth of useful information on the latest industry trends and market opportunities. In the afternoon, break-out sessions were held on the following themes: Hong Kong’s role as a gateway to Belt and Road opportunities; Hong Kong’s Fintech ecosystem; Asia’s burgeoning middle-class consumers and the pivotal role played by e-commerce in facilitating businesses’ expansion into this market.
Giving the keynote address, Hon Carrie Lam, Chief Executive of Hong Kong SAR, highlighted Hong Kong’s long-standing trade and economic relations with the UK as well as Hong Kong’s unrivalled strengths that extend beyond the business and investment fronts. She invites “friends in and outside the UK to make use of Hong Kong’s unique advantages to tap these wonderful opportunities”.
Throughout the day, CW CPA offered on-site business consultations to registered participants and took part in business matching meetings with companies across different sectors. In particular, we were pleased to provide interested parties with practical advice on expanding their businesses into Hong Kong and mainland China.
Given the extensive historical ties between Hong Kong and the UK, it comes as no surprise that the UK is Hong Kong’s second-largest trading partner in Europe with trade flows between the two economies amounting to more than US$12 billion in 2017. It is indeed against this backdrop that CW CPA set up a Europe Desk in London to help European companies capture the business opportunities arising from the flourishing bilateral trade and investment linkages. Since its establishment, our Europe Desk has also helped to open up new prospects for cooperation with local organisations and businesses in pursuit of this common goal.
As a fast-growing professional advisory firm based in Hong Kong with established presence in Shenzhen, Guangzhou and Shanghai, CW CPA is the preeminent expert “connector” for international businesses seeking to capitalise on the exciting opportunities in the thriving markets in China.
