The opening of the Consulate General of Portugal in Guangzhou, the third consul in China, took place on 19 October 2018 with the presence of the Portuguese Minister of Foreign Affairs. It was a special occasion as this month marks the opening of a new Consulate General of Portugal, the first in 13 years, in Guangzhou. CW CPA personally congratulated the Consul General André Sobral Cordeiro for this historical moment.
The year of 2018 has been fantastic for strengthening the Portugal and China friendship and mutual understanding. The Ambassador José Augusto Duarte, the then diplomatic adviser of the President of Portugal, was nominated as Ambassador of China. And later in May, President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa of Portugal met with State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi in Lisbon. In December, President Xi will visit Portugal, and the Portuguese Foreign Minister just confirmed that the President of Portugal will soon visit Beijing.
“In fact, 2019 marks the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Portugal, which stands to be an important time-coordinate to expand cooperation and elevate China-Portugal comprehensive strategic partnership to new stages.”
